Medicare Advantage Payments Rise for 2027

The federal government planned ~$13B more for private insurers offering Medicare Advantage in 2027, far above an earlier proposal that would have added ~$700M.
That extra funding aimed to keep coverage affordable, but it did not guarantee lower premiums, richer benefits, or direct savings for plan members.
Many insurers have signaled a stronger focus on profits as medical costs have risen and margins tightened, which could limit pressure to improve benefits.
During open enrollment, October 1 to December 15, seniors could compare Advantage plans, weigh Original Medicare, and review doctors, premiums, and drug coverage.
Late-Q3 annual change notices outlined 2027 updates, so seniors needed to check in-network doctors, premium changes, and formularies instead of assuming plans improved.
